It seems like Helldivers 2 has thrown another challenge our way with its latest Major Order. Players are finding this one particularly difficult to conquer, even though J.O.E.L has stepped in with a blizzard to lend a hand. Some players are still grumbling, likely because many chose to dive headfirst into battles with the bugs rather than facing off against The Illuminate.
In case you didn’t catch the update, the main focus is on utilizing the newly-repaired Democracy Space Station. The station has undergone modifications to increase its efficiency and, crucially, make it less of a hazard to the divers themselves.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to have swung things in favor of the divers yet. They’ve only managed to repel four of the required 14 Illuminate attacks, with a little over two days left on the clock. Part of the problem, according to discussions on Reddit, seems to be that a large number of divers have been busy trying to free the icy planet, Heeth, from the grip of the Terminids.
This situation highlights the ongoing conflict between those affectionately known as the bug divers—those who prefer battling the Terminids no matter the current Major Order urges—and their more adherence-focused peers keen on tackling foes like the Automatons. Even introducing new enemy factions pales in comparison to the allure of fighting bugs for many of these players.
Interestingly, the bug divers received some unexpected support from the game’s own J.O.E.L during their efforts on Heeth. This “catastrophic weather event” wiped out significant enemy forces, allowing friendly units to advance, resulting in Heeth’s liberation just moments ago. You’d think this favorable turn would please everyone, right?
Well, not exactly. One player took to Reddit, expressing that the weather intervention felt almost insulting, as if J.O.E.L was suggesting they should simply give up on the Major Order and focus solely on the planet. Yet, a popular counter-argument pointed out that if half of the divers are occupied on Heeth without success, J.O.E.L’s boost is actually a much-needed push rather than an affront.
Despite differing opinions on J.O.E.L’s help, many players are starting to believe this Major Order might be set up for failure unless they go all out. The outcome of this challenge will either set the stage for the next phase of the war or become a learning point. For now, let’s hope the divers keep their spirits high and keep fighting, especially now that Heeth is no longer in enemy hands.
