I’ve always had a fondness for the classic Breakout and Arkanoid games. There’s just something incredibly satisfying about using a paddle-shaped spaceship to smash bricks. Watching those intense multiball attacks obliterate structures is exhilarating. So, the news of Atari reintroducing a Breakout game that allows me to unleash my pent-up energy on various abstract constructions is exactly what I need right now.
Coming this March, Breakout Beyond is Atari’s fresh take on a legendary gaming brand. According to a recent press release, this game won’t just have you breaking bricks. It challenges you to creatively strategize with score-boosting combos. Breakout Beyond adds a twist to the traditional formula by shifting the action to a horizontal layout, pushing players to demolish walls from left to right. Atari is promising a thrilling experience with 72 levels and a two-player co-op mode.
Ethan Stearns, Atari’s senior director of games publishing, shared his enthusiasm, saying, “We’re excited to offer this gem to our players. Our team saw it as a fantastic idea, maintaining the core elements of Breakout while introducing a fresh concept. Breakout Beyond is a worthy addition to the Breakout series, and we’re eager to witness the incredible combos players will pull off.”
You’ll be able to enjoy Breakout Beyond on a wide range of platforms including the Atari VCS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
