It appears that Warner Bros has decided to pull the plug on a planned expansion for Hogwarts Legacy. According to a report from Bloomberg, this expansion was meant to roll out alongside a proposed Definitive Edition of the Harry Potter action RPG, which promised fresh storylines to players.
The decision to cancel reportedly stemmed from concerns about the project’s content not being substantial enough to warrant the price point that was under consideration. The expansion was being crafted by Avalanche Software, the original creators of the game, with help from Rocksteady. Meanwhile, Avalanche is supposedly hard at work on a sequel to this popular Harry Potter installment.
Recently, Rocksteady has faced layoffs after making the tough call to cease support for the 2024 release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Warner Bros has been facing some significant challenges; last year, the company openly acknowledged that its gaming division wasn’t pulling in the expected numbers. In fact, the same year, they ended up writing off $200 million related to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Moreover, they’ve shut down three studios recently, including Monolith, and their long-standing leader, David Haddad, has just announced his exit from the company.
