Exciting news for PlayStation enthusiasts and lovers of vibrant, imaginative games! Last night, Astro Bot snagged the prestigious Game of the Year award at the BAFTAs, leaving other remarkable contenders like Helldivers 2 and Balatro in its wake.
But that wasn’t all—the game scooped up an impressive collection of accolades, including honors for Audio Achievement, Animation, Family Game, and Game Design. This victory comes on the heels of its Game of the Year title at The Game Awards the previous year, where Astro Bot once again outshined major competitors in an incredibly competitive 2024.
During the award ceremony, a group of team members gathered to accept the accolade, with Nicolas Doucet taking the spotlight for a brief acceptance speech. He took a moment to express gratitude to their team in Japan, saying, “A heartfelt thanks to everyone in Japan. They poured immense love and dedication into crafting this game, piece by piece, every day. Winning wasn’t really on our minds; we simply aimed to brighten people’s lives as best as we could.”
Doucet went on to extend his appreciation to specific team members, especially the composer, as well as to everyone at PlayStation and the partners whose games are featured in Astro Bot. His thanks also reached the BAFTA academy, the families of their developers, and the pioneering video game creators who blazed the trail before them.
