Bungie has just unveiled its exciting new extraction shooter, Marathon, giving fans their first true glimpse into the gameplay. Mark your calendars, as Marathon is set to launch for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 23, 2025.
In Marathon, players will step into the shoes of Runners—those cybernetic mercenaries boasting unique skills. You’ll form a team of up to three, uniting in a mission to overcome hostile AI security forces and compete against other Runner teams. During your adventures, you’ll gather weapons, implants, and other vital equipment. Survive the encounter, and everything you collect will be yours to use in future missions.
Picture this: you and two friends drop into a high-stakes zone, your objective being to snag as much loot as you can and make it out alive. You’ll have to contend with various threats, including AI adversaries and rival teams, that demand strategic handling. Should you make it through unharmed, your collected treasures remain yours for future escapades. Are you the kind of player who loves a challenge? Solo runs are available too—outsmart entire teams and make your solo extraction with all the spoils.
