Firaxis has announced some exciting updates coming to Civilization 7, promising what could be the most impressive patch for the strategy game yet. This update is set to address some of the most common gripes players have, including extending gameplay beyond the Modern Age and reintroducing the much-loved Team Multiplayer mode from previous installments.
Civilization 7 has taken bold steps in revolutionizing the series by dividing games into three distinct eras and minimizing the tedious micromanagement players have often lamented. However, not all the new concepts have been as warmly embraced as anticipated, leading to some notable challenges. But the forthcoming 1.2 update, which is arriving later this month, is poised to win over many fans.
One of the exciting features in the patch is the return of the One More Turn option. Although a winner is usually determined by the end of the Modern Age, this feature lets players continue their games in pursuit of an outright victory or other win conditions, essentially allowing for endless gameplay. Firaxis is also exploring bringing this option to single-age gameplay, offering endless possibilities in the Antiquity and Exploration Ages as well.
For those who love a competitive edge and wish to team up with a friend, the update will also bring back the Team Multiplayer mode. A hit in Civ 6, this mode will enable groups of players to advance their civilizations together against rival teams. The individual winner’s victory will count for the whole team.
One of the main criticisms of Civilization 7 has been the repetitive and predictable nature of map generation and resources. Firaxis is addressing this by introducing ten new resources and randomizing resource generation. “Key resources will still be available in each Age to ensure progression through civ unlocks and the Economic Legacy Path,” the developers explain, “but beyond that, resource distribution will vary significantly!” This change promises to make exploration, trading, and strategy much more dynamic and varied with each playthrough.
Additionally, a new Hemisphere Identity system will ensure certain resources are confined to specific parts of the map, injecting even more unpredictability and diversity into gameplay. These changes are critical for keeping Civ 7 fresh and engaging. Though previous updates attempted to enhance map dynamics, this patch should significantly elevate the gameplay experience.
Patch 1.2 will also make Food a critical factor in the late game, reduce the frequency of game-altering natural disasters, and introduce a ‘Repair All’ function to cut down on micromanagement.
Scheduled for release on Tuesday, April 22, the Civilization 7 update 1.2 promises to bring these improvements and more. Firaxis has also confirmed that they are still working on other anticipated features, including Steam Workshop support, auto-explore, advanced game setup options, and a broader array of map types and sizes.
