Before the Caveling empires rose to power, cicadas were the rulers of the Underground, their life cycles perfectly synced with nature, earning them the title of “keepers of time.” But as the Cavelings expanded their territories, tensions mounted and war ensued. The aftermath of this great conflict is evident today in the remains of cicada husks and abandoned Caveling settlements scattered around. At the heart of this age-old war is Nimruza, a majestic cicada queen who once ruled the desert’s depths, until a parasite took over her body, turning her into a vessel of darkness. She now stands as a fierce adversary in the newest Core Keeper update, adding depth and intrigue to the Cicada-Caveling War saga.
Nimruza isn’t your typical boss—her introduction signifies a pivotal moment in Core Keeper, shifting the game’s narrative forward. Her design sprang from envisioning a colossal cicada queen, bringing the mysterious cicada husks to life from your past encounters in the game.
### Designing Nimruza
The talented team at Pugstorm invested countless hours into making Nimruza a standout adversary. They crafted her as a corrupted being, twisted and dangerous, reflected in her methodical attack patterns. Expect regimented, almost mechanical assaults that showcase her transformation from a natural monarch to a cold, evil machine, presenting a challenging battle for seasoned players.
### Exploring the Oasis
This Bags & Blasts update ushers you into the Oasis, a fresh sub-biome within the Desert of Beginnings, inviting you to face Nimruza in her domain. Battle the swarming cicadas, dodge Nimruza’s formidable strikes, and resist the dark energy’s destructive power to triumph over this mammoth insect in one of Core Keeper’s most challenging boss fights to date.
While adventuring in the Oasis, be on the lookout for the Drohmble, a delightful, camel-like creature roaming the lush plains. Raising these creatures could provide a valuable, albeit pungent, resource, perfect for crafting new weapons.
### Explosive New Skills & Weapons
Think we’re done? Not even close! The Bags & Blasts update cranks up the excitement with a new Explosives skill tree designed to add a bang to your gameplay. Utilize Grenades to keep foes at bay, and discover innovative bomb types like the vacuum Void Bomb and multi-blast Blunder Bomb.
