Exciting news for fans of Dune Awakening has recently surfaced, thanks to a detailed update from Funcom outlining the game’s post-launch plans. Alongside this announcement, they’ve also shared the required PC specifications via their official page on Steam.
In the video, narrated by Joel Byros, Funcom’s chief creative officer, he goes through what players can expect as the game evolves following its launch on May 20 this year. Interestingly, Dune Awakening will not adopt the typical subscription model seen in other MMOs. Instead, it will rely on optional paid DLC packs, released in tandem with free updates.
These complimentary updates promise to include a host of enhancements such as quality of life improvements, new features, and additional story content—essentially all the essential elements that help keep a live service game thriving. As for the paid DLCs, specifics are still under wraps, but players will have the flexibility to buy them individually or as part of a season pass, bundling various items together.
Byros also shared that players who purchase certain versions of the game can start diving into Dune Awakening on May 15, a full five days ahead of everyone else. While this offers early access to some, Byros explains that it’s also a strategic move to help balance server loads, ensuring a smoother experience for all players at the official launch. Nothing can derail an MMO faster than a rocky start!
The Steam post, accompanying the video, lays out the minimum and recommended PC specs as follows:
Minimum:
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit or newer
- Processor: Intel Core i5-7400 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) / AMD Radeon 5600XT (6GB)
- Storage: 60 GB available space
Recommended:
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit or newer
- Processor: Intel Core i7-10700K / AMD Ryzen 5 2600X
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (8GB) / AMD Radeon 6700XT (12GB)
- Storage: 75 GB available space
Additionally, the post unveils some exciting PC-specific features like NVIDIA’s DLSS 4, making Dune Awakening one of the pioneering games to incorporate it, along with AMD’s FSR, Intel’s XeSS 2, and compatibility with Razer Chroma RGB and Razer Sensa HD Haptics. If you’re planning to experience the game on PC, these features promise to enhance both visuals and gameplay.
Personally, I’m a fan of this business model. With the overwhelming number of subscriptions we juggle these days, a one-time purchase that allows for occasional revisits aligns perfectly with what I prefer—much like my sporadic returns to Guild Wars 2. So I’m all for it! Plus, there’s more to look forward to with a gameplay stream scheduled for March 24, as mentioned in the Steam blog post.
