Nintendo has made it clear that the key to the success of the Nintendo Switch 2 will be its exclusive game offerings. This insight came straight from a recent shareholder meeting. During the session, an investor inquired about whether Nintendo plans to keep launching new games for the current Nintendo Switch after its successor takes the stage.
Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of Nintendo, addressed this by mentioning that new titles, specifically Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, are indeed in the pipeline for the Switch, with launches expected in 2025. “Given the widespread popularity of the Nintendo Switch, we’re eager to continue developing engaging games for it,” he said. But Furukawa also highlighted the importance of exclusivity: “New hardware needs exclusive games to make its mark. We’re exploring different ways to entice both Switch and Switch 2 users to dive into our new offerings.”
For those eager to learn more about what Nintendo has in store, you’re in luck. The company has announced a Nintendo Direct presentation focused on the Nintendo Switch 2. This event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, and will kick off at 6 am PT / 9 am ET / 2 pm BST / 3 pm CEST.
As for the Nintendo Switch 2 itself, it’s set for a global release in 2025, but the exact date is still under wraps. The gaming community is eagerly awaiting more details, especially with the anticipation of seeing the first reveal trailer, which promises to offer a tantalizing glimpse of what’s to come.
