Helldivers 2 is shaking things up again with a new Major Order. Whether you’re still brushing off the defeat from your last mission or you’ve just hopped back into the action on Steam, it’s time to gear up for what’s next. This isn’t just about completing your current assignment; it’s also about what lies ahead.
Previously, the Democracy Space Station had an upgrade, ready to tackle the Illuminate menace. Now, we’re heading back to the bug battles. Of course, if you’re a dedicated bugdiver, you might already be familiar with these skirmishes.
On the surface, this new Major Order may not seem groundbreaking. The task involves collecting 22 million common samples from Erata Prime, securing 15 million rare ones from Gacrux, and ensuring that Super Earth holds control over Fenrir III, all within the next four days.
But there’s more to it. These efforts are geared towards developing technology to combat “The Gloom,” a mysterious spore cloud drifting through sectors dominated by the Terminid. It’s more than just a fog hazard for your spacecraft.
According to Arrowhead’s briefing, experiments on Terminids using Gloom spores have discovered that these induce mutations, potentially increasing Element 710 production by up to ten times. Such a result could open new avenues of energy.
“The potential here is vast,” the briefing elaborates. “Gloom might be an untapped energy source, capable of revolutionizing Faster-Than-Light (FTL) travel beyond military and colony use—ushering it into commerce and research, as well as enhancing military operations.”
This could add new resources to Super Earth’s arsenal beyond just the Democracy Space Station. Or, as some players predict, it might backfire and result in even stronger bug adversaries, possibly due to escaped subjects from Gloom mutation experiments.
We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out. Knowing Helldivers 2, it’ll likely be a mix of outcomes.
