It’s officially confirmed: Hollow Knight: Silksong is indeed a real game still in the works, putting to rest some of those recent conspiracy theories buzzing around. Matthew Griffin, who’s at the helm of marketing and publishing for Team Cherry, assured fans on X last Friday saying, “Yes the game is real, progressing and will release.”
Griffin’s comment came as a response to an X user looking for an update after Hollow Knight speedrunner fireb0rn poured cold water on a swirling conspiracy within the fan community about an imminent release date announcement. As fans often do, they thought they had decoded a clue when developer William Pellen’s alternative X account switched its profile picture and hinted at “something big.” Spoiler alert: nothing big was actually on the horizon.
So, it’s back to square one, waking up each day and hoping for an update on this eagerly awaited sequel to the 2017 action game. Since the announcement of Silksong back in 2019, fans have been on a relentless hunt for any sign of its release. The enthusiasm has reached meme status, with no major game announcement passing by without someone secretly praying for a surprise Silksong reveal. Venturing into the game’s subreddit feels like watching that iconic GIF from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia where Charlie Day is frantically connecting dots on a wall of pinned letters. This game needs to drop if for nothing else than to redirect this energy elsewhere!
Fingers crossed, we might not have to wait much longer. The last update slated the release for 2023, though it got shuffled to 2024. That deadline was missed too, but at least we know it’s still happening. Get ready for yet another wave of excitement in April during the first Switch 2 Nintendo Direct presentation. And if that doesn’t pan out, there’s always the Summer Games Fest to keep us going.
