It seems like Sony is finally taking steps to address the long-standing issues with the PS5’s Activity Cards feature, which many of us have found lacking since the ‘Resume Activity’ functionality was removed. Though we likely won’t see that particular feature make a comeback, today’s PS5 system update shows that Sony hasn’t completely turned its back on Activity Cards just yet.
Jumping into what’s new, February 2025’s PS5 system update beta brings some improvements to Activity Cards. Since the removal of the ‘Resume Activity’ feature, Activity Cards have largely been ignored, leaving players frustrated. In fact, I previously wrote about how these cards sometimes fail to work altogether or provide incorrect information.
The latest patch notes for the PS5 system software update beta — which, by the way, is available only to those with an invite — indicate a positive change:
It’s easier now to see specific details about activities.
Activity details are fully visible on cards, but potential spoilers remain hidden.
While it seems ‘Resume Activity’ isn’t making a comeback, these updates promise that the problematic, often dysfunctional cards should start working as intended. I’m keeping my expectations in check, though. The real test will be when players dive into a variety of games to see how effective these fixes are. Still, small progress is better than no progress.
It’s worth remembering that Sony didn’t shy away from promoting Activity Cards before the PS5 was launched, so the prolonged lack of attention to the feature has been a bit unexpected.
