While the studio will likely release some bug fixes later on, patch 8 signals the end of additional content for this Dungeons & Dragons game. This shift allows Larian to focus entirely on its future projects, as they’re working on two new games simultaneously. Though it might be a while before we see these games in action, Larian’s CEO, Swen Vincke, has provided a positive update on their progress.
At present, the specifics of Larian’s next ventures are under wraps. The studio initially began crafting a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3 but chose to venture into something different, the details of which remain a secret. Personally, I’m hoping at least one of their upcoming RPGs ventures into the realm of sci-fi, given Larian’s knack for fantasy and my curiosity about how they’d handle a new genre.
Whatever they’re cooking up, Vincke is confident it will match or even surpass the scale of BG3.
“We’re really diving deep into our next major project,” Vincke shared in a recent GameSpot interview. “It’s coming together nicely, but it’s incredibly ambitious. There are so many new possibilities these days, making things quite complex.
“Additionally, we’re figuring out how to tackle developing two games at once. We’ve been open about our dual-project endeavor, but organizing everything is challenging because our games are intricate with lots of player choices. It’s tough to predict completion times.”
Vincke further explains that Larian isn’t aiming to drastically expand its team, preferring to strategically use its developers across both games where feasible. However, with two huge projects on deck, it’s not straightforward, and we’ll have to wait and see which game Larian unveils first.
