In the past week, we’ve seen a flurry of convincing leaks regarding the Nintendo Switch 2’s final design, with the most startling revelation coming yesterday. Dbrand, known for their accessories, unexpectedly dropped a detailed 3D render of the new console, complete with a redesigned version of their Killswitch carrying case, specifically made for the Switch 2. Adam Ijaz, CEO of Dbrand, told The Verge that this render was based on actual dimensions sourced from a 3D scan of the real console. With Joy-Cons attached, the device allegedly measures about 270mm in width (200mm without), alongside being 116mm tall and 14mm thick.
Looking at the supposed Nintendo Switch 2’s features, it boasts a significantly larger 8-inch screen compared to the Switch OLED’s 7.2-inch and the original Switch’s 6.2-inch screens. Players will notice a new extra button—labeled “C” for possibly “capture?”—on the right Joy-Con. The Joy-Cons themselves have a new magnetic detachment system with a more noticeable curve. Additionally, users will find both top and bottom USB-C ports and a broad U-shaped kickstand, similar to the Switch OLED’s upgraded model.
Given what we know, it seems we’re looking at a launch perhaps in the first quarter of 2025. This evolution from the Switch OLED to the Switch 2 is apparent, even if it doesn’t adopt an OLED display. Instead, the leaks suggest it’ll feature a high-quality 1080p IPS LCD screen, a definite step up from the original Switch’s LCD.
As for Dbrand’s Killswitch case for the Switch 2, it departs from previous Killswitch offerings, which include extensive kickstands or full enclosures like those for the Steam Deck. The design accommodates the detachable Joy-Cons, with the body separating into parts and held together by an eye-catching teal bungee cord. Known for their sturdy protective cases for phones and handhelds, Dbrand seems poised to deliver another hit with this design.
However, if you’re craving a look at the pure Nintendo Switch 2 without added accessories, the full picture remains elusive. Yet, Dbrand’s specs align closely with a 3D-printed mock-up shared by the YouTube channel SwitchUp recently. This model gives fans a better idea of what the standalone console might feel and look like.
This significant leak from Dbrand (seemingly unrestrained by any NDAs) might be ushering in an imminent Nintendo announcement about the Switch 2. There’s been speculation that the console would see the light of day before the end of 2024, and Nintendo has already set a March 2025 deadline for revealing its details. With just a few months left, the countdown is on. It looks like companies like Dbrand are already gearing up for what could be Nintendo’s next big release, lining up manufacturing and generating buzz for this anticipated gaming hybrid.
