Giant vigorwasps are one of those intriguing creatures you’ll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds, akin to the healing vigorwasps you’re familiar with, but these ones are much larger. For the side quest “A Gutsy Move,” your trusty Palico will need you to snag one of these impressive insects. This quest is among the various side missions that your Palico will present as you advance through your journey in the game.
If you’re wondering where exactly to find these elusive giant vigorwasps and how to go about capturing them, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered with this comprehensive guide to Monster Hunter Wilds.
Where to Find Giant Vigorwasps in Monster Hunter Wilds
Giant vigorwasps have been spotted in areas such as the Windward Plains, the Scarlet Forest, and the Ruins of Wyveria. Interestingly, they only appear during bountiful times and are noticeably absent during less fruitful periods. Fortunately for hunters, these giant vigorwasps are marked on your in-game map. Simply open up the map, press right twice on the D-pad to access the icon filter, and scroll down to locate the giant vigorwasp icons. You can then use the D-pad to identify the nearest one.
When you’ve found one on the map, press X/A to set a waypoint, and your Seikret will guide you right to it.
How to Catch Giant Vigorwasps in Monster Hunter Wilds
After you’re in the vicinity of a giant vigorwasp, capturing it is straightforward. First, equip your capture net from either the item bar or your Essential Items radial menu. Get close to the giant vigorwasp, which, thankfully, won’t react to your presence, so stealth isn’t necessary. When the reticle changes to a yellow-orange color, you’ll know you’re in the right spot. Fire away, but remember to use L2/LT instead of the usual Square/X button.
Capturing the giant vigorwasp this way won’t provide the usual healing benefits—they’re normally ‘popped’ for their restorative properties. However, successfully capturing one can yield honey for potion crafting or eastern honey, which can be used as a special ingredient in cooking.
