Marvel Rivals is gearing up for an exciting change, as creative director Guangyun Chen revealed in a recent update video. Starting soon, players will be introduced to new heroes on a monthly basis, thanks to the decision to shorten the game’s seasons.
From season 3 onwards, we’re looking at a new structure where each season wraps up in just two months instead of three. This change means fans of the game can look forward to the release of a fresh hero at both the beginning and midpoint of each season.
“We’ve had a lot of discussions and careful consideration on this,” Chen explained. “As a result, we’re moving to a two-month seasonal schedule starting with season 3, promising a new hero every month.”
This shift in pacing means that other aspects of the game will need some tweaking too. For example, the speed at which players earn in-game currency and unlock battle pass cosmetics will be adjusted. Chen mentioned that they’ll provide more specific details about these changes closer to the launch of season 3, which is expected in early July.
This new rapid-fire schedule for hero releases is significantly quicker compared to competitors like Overwatch 2. Blizzard typically rolls out new heroes every six months, with their latest, Freja, set to appear soon. While Marvel Rivals introduced all four members of the Fantastic Four in season 1 as a special treat, NetEase Games advises that future seasons will settle into the rhythm of two heroes each.
In more immediate news, Emma Frost will make her debut on April 11 with the start of season 2, and Ultron will join the fray with the mid-season update in June. Players can also look forward to new team-up abilities, the ability to gift cosmetics, recolored popular skins, and several balance updates with the new season.
