Well, it looks like the days of never having to fork out real cash for Nintendo Switch Online perks are coming to a close.
A couple of notable changes are on the horizon for Nintendo fans. One particularly popular feature of the Switch is wrapping up following the re-release of Xenoblade Chronicles X, and another won’t carry over to the anticipated Switch 2.
In a recent announcement, Nintendo revealed that the My Nintendo Gold program is slated to be discontinued as of March 25, starting at 12:59 AM ET. This program has been a favorite among fans, providing 1% back in eShop credit for physical first-party releases within their first year and 5% on all digital eShop purchases. However, there will be a small window of exception; physical games released from March 25, 2024, until their one-year mark will still qualify. This exception specifically includes games from the likes of Endless Ocean: Luminous up to the Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. Unfortunately, titles like Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will miss the cut.
Moreover, there’s an update concerning Switch Online Vouchers. The support page has noted that the voucher system won’t be applicable for the upcoming Switch 2 games. So, if you’re a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber, remember that while you can still grab a pair of these vouchers for $99 US or the equivalent, they can only be redeemed for first-party releases on the current Switch. This means they’ll still be valid for upcoming games like Legends Z-A and Prime 4 on the original console.
