Path of Exile 2’s upcoming update 0.2.0 is set to intensify the focus on Towers, establishing them as a pivotal part of its endgame experience. Unfortunately, this move hasn’t been met with universal enthusiasm within the community.
The update is slated for release towards the end of March 2025, and while some players are looking forward to it, others are less thrilled about the continued spotlight on a feature they find problematic.
Grinding Gear Games recently unveiled a preview that outlines several gameplay adjustments slated for Path of Exile 2’s 0.2.0 update, with a significant emphasis on reshaping the mechanics of the Lost Towers. This teaser reaffirms the team’s commitment to maintaining Towers as a core component of Path of Exile 2’s endgame, despite some players’ wishes for a different direction.
The community is vocal, especially regarding the challenges Towers present. Critics highlight the poor layout and limited visibility of Tower maps, which impede smooth navigation. Players have also expressed discontent with the time and effort required to advance through these maps, often describing the process as frustrating.
In a short video clip, there’s a clear intent from GGG to further embrace the controversial Towers with the introduction of the new 0.2.0 patch. This update plans to integrate all content, including bosses, into Tower maps, thereby aligning them with standard map requirements. The hope appears to be that by implementing a consistent gameplay loop for activating Towers, the player experience will be more seamless.
The 0.2.0 update is also expected to bring new features to the Atlas, particularly the ability for Towers to be randomly generated. This addition aims to inject some unpredictability into the endgame mapping experience. Furthermore, the update will allow Towers to absorb content from nearby tablets, promoting a strategic approach where players could leverage resources for maximum benefit.
Despite these advancements, debate continues among players who desire a fresh endgame direction less focused on Towers. Although the upcoming update isn’t likely to significantly alleviate their concerns, some suggest potential compromises. Ideas floated by the community include enabling Towers to unlock surrounding map nodes and accept multiple tablets, keeping them crucial but reducing the monotony. Expanding the range within which map nodes connect is also among the considerations being discussed.
As it stands, Path of Exile 2’s 0.2.0 update is targeted for a late March 2025 release, with the game remaining in early access until at least May of the same year.
