With the announcement that Forza Horizon 5 is heading to the PS5, it seems like Xbox games are no longer confined to their home platform. Rumors have been swirling that Marcus Fenix might soon be battling the Locust Horde on PlayStation consoles. Now, it looks like this might actually happen with a collection of the first three Gears of War games, set to launch on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at the same time.
### A Collection of Classic Gears Awaits on PS5
Rumored insider eXtas1s reports that a Gears of War collection is in the pipeline, although the official announcement timing remains uncertain. The exciting part? It appears the game will be available on multiple platforms right from the get-go, letting players from PC, Xbox, and PlayStation come together for some cross-play action.
In an interesting revelation translated by ResetEra’s Rychu, eXtas1s shared, “I can discuss the Gears Collection because confirming its existence has been quite a journey for me, but it does seem to be real. I’m confident that when it is announced, it’ll be a cross-platform title from day one.” They also mentioned, “Remasters of the old Gears games will support playing across platforms. The only thing I haven’t pinned down is whether there’ll be a Switch version, but cross-play is a go for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.”
This isn’t the first time Gears of War’s compatibility with the PS5 has been whispered about. Just recently, Jez Corden from Windows Central hinted at the possibility of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition making its way to Sony’s console by 2025.
However, as with any rumor mill chatter, it’s wise to remain skeptical. While there’s a lot of buzz from insiders backing each other up, game development is notoriously unpredictable, meaning plans can shift overnight. Until an official announcement drops, we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed and imagine the possibilities.
