In the world of Sea of Thieves, the thrill of sailing the open seas comes with its fair share of unexpected surprises. Whether you bump into another crew, engage in a tussle with a fearsome kraken, or face off against a dilapidated skeleton sloop, these encounters keep the adventure alive. However, one of the most unpredictable and formidable foes remains the megalodon. These colossal sharks emerge with a foreboding musical cue, circling your ship with a hunger for chaos. This past Wednesday, Rare decided to stir things up a notch by sharing a quirky video on X. It introduces two new megalodons, one of which is fiery and poised to set your vessel ablaze!
This fiery twist brings up a few interesting dilemmas. For starters, how on earth did they manage to capture shakycam footage within Sea of Thieves? Such a technique implies the presence of cameras, something you’d not expect in a pirate era. And while the menacing nature of the Feared Redmaw megalodon—ready to reduce your ship to cinders—is pretty evident, I’m particularly intrigued by the other new creature shown in the clip. This one, affectionately named the Barnacled Dread, seems to promise its own set of complications for seafarers.
We’ll uncover more details about these new menaces when the excitement sails in on February 20, marking the launch of the fresh season of Sea of Thieves. Dubbed "Wild Things," this season appears to be focusing some attention on the Hunter’s Call faction. It seems we’re about to witness a shift in the marine ecosystem, but I’m not sure anything could be more spine-tingling than these new sharks. Personally, I’m just hoping they decide to keep their distance from my ship!
