Janos Flösser, the former managing director of IO Interactive—famed for creating Hitman—has launched a new endeavor with his studio, Wombo Games. This fresh venture is working on an exciting strategy roguelike game, Raiders of Blackveil, which is slated to enter Early Access this summer.
Wombo Games was established back in 2023. Flösser brings a wealth of experience, having spent nearly a decade with IO Interactive from 1998 to 2008. He then transitioned to a key role at Square Enix as the Chief Creative Officer, where he contributed until 2016. Following that, he took on the CEO position at Crey Games. His extensive career also includes his time as a partner, and later a senior partner, at Promentum Capital.
“We aimed to keep the studio lean and agile to see just how far we could take it,” Flösser explained to GamesBeat. “We secured funding and kicked things off in July 2023. It’s hard to believe we’re approaching the two-year mark already. Remarkably, we had a playable version within just about six weeks and our investors got hooked on the game early. They’ve been passionate about the concept ever since. This is the first time I’ve seen investors so enthusiastic about both the team and the game. We’ve successfully raised funds three times over the past two years. Right now, our focus is on developing the right game for the right audience.”
