In less than a year after closing a successful campaign for Cyberpunk 2077: The Board Game, raking in over $9.5 million, the innovative team at Go On Board is setting their sights on another exciting project. This time, they’re aiming to bring the thrilling world of the Tekken fighting game franchise to the tabletop scene with a new crowdfunding endeavor.
Similar to its video game roots, Tekken: The Board Game is designed to capture the essence of high-stakes, strategic combat. Players will engage in intense one-on-one battles, utilizing psychology, area control, and a series of combos. As players command uniquely skilled characters, victory will hinge on concealing their strategies and catching their opponent off guard with unexpected maneuvers. All of this action unfolds on a hexagonal board, with matches running anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes.
The developers emphasize that triumph involves more than just a flurry of attacks. Mastery comes from truly understanding the distinct playstyle of each character. This includes knowing their preferred attack zones, utilizing specific combinations of moves, and unleashing powerful Rage attacks that can turn the tide in crucial moments. Just like in the video game, features like Wall Break, Floor Break, and Wall Blast are integrated to give players a competitive edge. Adding an extra layer of excitement, random events influenced by arena themes will keep players on their toes and test their tactical prowess.
For those who love a communal challenge, Tekken: The Board Game offers a tournament mode accommodating up to eight players. So far, the confirmed roster features the iconic father-son duo, Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama. But for those backing the campaign, there’s a special treat in the form of Angel Jin, complete with its own miniature and an exclusive set of cards.
